CHARADRIIFORMES: Scolopacidae
Calidris subminuta
The Long-toed Stint is a secretive bird, generally keeping to the vegetated edges of ponds.
I've fortuitously bumped into Melbourne birder John McRae at Victorian locations hundreds of kilometres apart and each time he has, without fail, pointed me at a great bird. This Long-toed Stint is the latest addition to the list and adds to my indebtedness to John's bird-watching skills.
